Slumdog Millionaire Actress For Sale.

Rafiq Qureshi and his second wife deny the accusation that they attempted to sell their young daughter, Rubina Ali, who starred in the movie Slumdog Millionaire as Latika. Apparently the family "got nothing" from the film. British tabloid staff pretended to be a wealthy Arab Sheikh that wanted to to adopt Rubina and take her to live in Dubai. Qureshi demanded roughly $296 000 for this "Oscar child". After meeting three times with the undercover couple, Qureshi explained "I have to do what's best for me, my family and Rubina's future." Though no further information has been released, Indian police say that there is no real evidence that Qureshi was trying to sell his daughter. The case remains to be investigated further, however, the controversy and story continue.

Oh no, we are definitely NOT obsessed with fame or wealth. How is it that society has begun to turn against their own children to establish a comfortable life for themselves. We believe we have high morals and that greed could never affect us. Those of us who speak these words have yet to be placed in Rafiq's position. Of course, this story may exactly be just that- a story. We look at Rafiq as an evil father with no beliefs and definitely no love for his own daughter. However, everyday we buy overpriced magazines to read the juicy hollywood gossip. Every chance we have we purchase pricey concert tickets just to see a celebrity in "real life". Every day we reestablish our life plan: do good in school and finish as fast as possible, look for the highest paying job when done school, save money so we can buy a big house and nice car. So what makes us so different than Rafiq? Well, other than the obvious, we would never attempt to sell our own children just to make money and possibly make headlines (also known as become famous). Though the Qureshi family may live in one of the poorest and harshest places in the world, it is no excuse for what Rafiq attempted to accomplish. This is merely a great example of how obsessed we ALL are with fame and money. The lengths that both men and women take for money or power is indescribable. Society is not only obsessed with fame, we are run by it. The amount of people that this story has reached also proves how easily we are persuaded by the media. We now live in a world where anything is possible, epecially if wealth or fame is the end result of our wrong doings.
